What do all the acronyms on my prescription mean?

Here are some of the acronyms you are going to find on your prescription:

  • OD"oculus dexter" indicates the parameters of your right eye
  • OS"oculus sinister" indicates the parameters of your left eye
  • SPH"sphere" indicates the strength value of lenses prescribed for near or far vision. This is measured in diopters and uses (+) for far vision (hyperopia) and (-) for near vision (myopia) .
  • CYL & AXIS: a cylinder (CYL) and an axis (between 0 and 180 degrees) are necessary in order to correct astigmatism. These two parameters must be provided together.
  • ADD: it is the magnifying force for reading, multifocal and progressive. Normally you will have the same value for both eyes, usually between +0.75 and +3.50.

Some prescriptions may include other parameters such as:

  • EP(Pupillary Distance): This is the distance from the center of one pupil to the center of the other pupil. This EP is measured in millimeters and indicates where on the lens the optical center should be placed so that your vision is comfortable and adequate.
  • Prisme: Measured in prismatic diopters, this setting is needed when eye alignment needs to be supported. We do not offer prism-corrected lenses, as we believe prescriptions that include a prism are best addressed directly to the optometrist who issued the prescription.

Can I cancel my order after it is in production?

We are able to cancel an order if it is in production.

Far vision

Single vision lenses correct myopia, a very common eye condition that causes blurred vision at a distance.

Near vision

Presbyopia and farsightedness cause blurred near vision, and are also corrected by single vision lenses.

PROGRESSIVE VISION

Also known as multifocal, degressive or anti-fatigue lenses, progressive lenses allow several visual needs to be addressed simultaneously. They have three vision zones (far, intermediate and near) and use state-of-the-art technology designed to ensure a gradual transition between these different distances.
